The base underneath the path or the surface beneath the tiled hall needs to be solid and robust to withstand day-to-day traffic in the home. We can advise on the existing flooring and identify what may need to be done before tiling can begin. A common problem is that the existing cement base has cracked or has raised. This may be due to tree roots that have grown underneath the path over many years, or the original base was not sufficiently compacted. It’s important that the tiles are fixed to a solid surface and if there are existing issues with a surface, we advise that the base is removed and reinstated with a strengthening steel fabric by either your building contractor or ourselves.
London Victorian sell tiles- new and reclaimed. You can contact us about our range and we can also source tiles for particular projects. We have an on-going interest in the history of Victorian tiles and their manufacture- we’d like to hear about any ideas you may have and we can advise about how this can be achieved! It’s also worth looking in your local area to see if original patterns still exist. This can often inspire the kind of geometric tile design you want to achieve.
